Accounting

Books that are current, reconciled and ready for tax time.

Monthly books in QuickBooks or Xero, reconciled to the bank and ready for tax time. We can also set up or clean up your system.

Is this the support you need?

For business owners who want their records to be useful all year, not just at tax time, whether we take over the books or set up a system you run yourself.

Bring your records into one place

Bank accounts, credit cards, payment processors and invoices can tell different parts of the same story. Start by identifying where your records live, what is missing and how transactions should flow into the ledger. An agreed bookkeeping process makes the hand-off between your business and your accountant clearer.

Make the monthly close a habit

A useful close goes beyond importing bank feeds. It includes reconciliations, a review of outstanding customer and supplier balances, and follow-up on unexplained transactions. Discuss the reporting frequency and the decisions you need those reports to support.

System setup and clean-up

We work in QuickBooks Online and Xero. Setup and clean-up covers the chart of accounts, bank feeds, receipt capture and the connected apps your business already uses, such as payment processors and point-of-sale. Start with how money moves through the business, then choose the integrations; a subscription cannot resolve an unclear process on its own.

Migrate with a reconciliation plan

A change of platform needs more than a file import. Agree on the cutover date, opening balances, historical detail to retain and who has access. Reconciliations establish whether the migrated figures match the source records, and existing errors are cleaned up as part of the scope rather than carried across.

Catch up without losing the bigger picture

Behind on bookkeeping? Bring the last completed period and a list of unfiled returns to the first conversation. The scope of any cleanup depends on the volume of activity, the quality of the records and the deadlines involved. Ongoing work can be planned after the opening position is understood.

What your engagement may include

  • Monthly bookkeeping in QuickBooks Online or Xero
  • Bank and credit-card reconciliations
  • HST returns and accounts receivable and payable reporting
  • System setup, clean-up and migration, including bank feeds and receipt capture

The exact scope, responsibilities and proposed fees are confirmed before paid work begins. Not every item is required for every engagement.

Bring a little context to the first conversation

  • Your bookkeeping software and last reconciled period
  • Number of bank, credit-card and payment accounts
  • Approximate monthly transaction volume
  • Any overdue filings or upcoming deadlines

A short summary is plenty to start. Records are only requested once you’ve engaged the firm, through the secure client portal.

Questions about bookkeeping

Do you work with QuickBooks and Xero?

Yes. We work with both and can set up, clean up or take over your existing system. Confirm the product edition and integrations during your consultation.

Can you take over existing bookkeeping?

Yes, discuss your current system and records with Versa. The first step is to understand the closing balances, access arrangements and any cleanup needed before agreeing on ongoing work.

Will moving software fix inaccurate books?

Not on its own. Existing records may need reconciliation or clean-up before or alongside a migration. That work is included explicitly in the scope.

Is bookkeeping the same as a corporate tax return?

No. Bookkeeping organizes the underlying records. Corporate tax preparation is a separate service that uses those records along with tax-specific information and adjustments.
